Why Resveratrol Grape Juice Can Give Your Health A Boost

Resveratrol grape juice is considered by many in the medical profession to offer the same benefits as red wine. The juice must, however, come from the right type of grapes. The standard green grapes will not produce anywhere enough of the active ingredient to be effective. What you need are dark purple grapes, or the dark red ones. These grapes have the active ingredient Resveratrol in the skin and seeds, so don't peel the grapes before you eat them, and don't be tempted to discard the seeds.

It has to be said that this medical opinion is not universally shared, in fact there are many who doubt the effectiveness of Resveratrol altogether. Tests performed on laboratory animals have shown positive results, but the physical characteristics of these short-lived animals is totally different from the physical characteristics of human beings. The real truth will only be revealed in the future, if enough long term tests are carried out on human beings.

It is even possible that the Resveratrol in grape juice may have other positive benefits in the fight against degenerative disease. Tests carried out on animals have suggested that at least the possibility exists of insulin levels being controlled by Resveratrol. This would be headline news in a world where diabetes is such a serious problem. The studies, however, showed no benefits in cholesterol levels. This was in direct contrast to what is believed to be true with humans.

Studies performed on human beings have suggested that the Resveratrol grapes do indeed affect cholesterol levels. In fact, they affect them in more than one way. Firstly, the low density lipoprotein cholesterol, which is a causative factor in heart disease, is reduced. Secondly, the high density lipoprotein cholesterol, which is good and actually helps protect against heart disease, is increased. Blood pressure levels are also regulated by the flavonoids found in Resveratrol grapes.

There are many people who are not comfortable with using alcoholic beverages as part of a healthy diet, and there are some who simply don't like red wine. The news that Resveratrol grapes can provide the same benefit will be good for these people. People who are health conscious will have far less reservations about drinking substantial quantities of grape juice than they would red wine. There are also practical considerations, especially for people who do a lot of driving as part of their job. People who are concerned about preventing aging will tend to be health conscious anyway, so they may well be concerned about the alcohol consumption needed with red wine. The good news for those who enjoy a drink is that they can now regulate their alcohol intake by substituting these grapes when they have had enough. Anyone seeking to slow down aging safely will benefit from using Resveratrol grape juice.
