How Red Wine Resveratrol Can Protect You From Degenerative Diseases

Red wine resveratrol can give you health benefits and slow down aging. It remains a controversial subject, of course, as anyone advocating alcohol consumption as a beneficial health measure is bound to have detractors. There is even controversy as to whether Resveratrol slows down the aging process, although there is much evidence to suggest that it does. Tests have been performed on laboratory animals with very short lifespans, and these tests have suggested that resveratrol does slow down the aging process, as well as providing other benefits to health.

Further tests have suggested that resveratrol also reduces insulin levels in laboratory animals. It is impossible to say how relevant this is to human beings, as other results have shown a discrepancy with short term tests carried out on human beings. The animal tests suggest that resveratrol intake has no influence on cholesterol levels, which are a major concern to heart health. Tests which have been carried out on human beings, on the other hand, suggest very strongly that cholesterol levels are affected by resveratrol.

Tests on animals can, of course, only suggest what will happen when the same substances are applied to human beings. Long-term studies are needed to determine whether or not resveratrol has a significant effect in slowing down the aging process in human beings. These same studies will be able to determine any other spin off benefits to human health. For now, we can only use the results we have from the short term tests which have been carried out. These tests show that resveratrol is effective in improving cholesterol levels on two different counts.

Firstly, the low density lipoproteins which are a high risk factor in heart disease are shown to be reduced by resveratrol, and also by flavonoids which are also present in red wine. Not only that, but resveratrol also increases the level of high density lipoproteins which are 'good' cholesterol. These two health benefits, which reinforce each other, would be enough of a reason to implement red wine as part of your dietary system.

Red wine resveratrol is proving very popular because it can be implemented at low expense, and has no known side effects beyond those associated with the over consumption of alcohol. If you are someone who enjoys a drink, or someone who normally takes a glass of wine with their dinner, you can probably implement this health measure at no extra expense, and without making any significant change to your lifestyle. Although there are, at this moment, no conclusive long term results to prove the effectiveness of resveratrol one way or the other, you can rest assured that there will be no hidden health danger. Red wine has been consumed for a great many years, so you can be sure of the safety of red wine resveratrol.
